Teenager Injured In Michigan Bicycle Accident

A 15-year old boy sustained serious injuries on June 17, 2010, when his bicycle chain came off and he crashed into the side of a delivery truck.  Ypsinalti Police said the boy was riding on Michigan Avenue close to Grove Road when the chain came off while going down the hill.

The teen boy was unable to stop his bicycle and ran right into the side of a delivery truck. The teen was immediately taken to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital where he was treated for a forehead laceration. It is not clear whether the boy was wearing a helmet or not.

We offer our sympathies to the injured victim and his family for such a tough time. Parents must ensure that their children wear helmets and observe all safety measure for safe riding. It appears that a mechanical failure might have led to this bicycle and if it is confirmed that a loose chain was the reason behind this accident, then the bicycle manufacturing may be liable to pay compensation for boy’s injuries and the money spent on his treatment.  Alternatively, this accident is a good reminder to all cyclists to make sure that their bikes are in good working order.
